After the lanterns dim on the ramparts

Eight games in a browser tab
for when the carnival grounds close

Once the last toboggan is stacked by the old walls and the snow castle goes dark, Gaspard opens a browser tab rather than heading straight to bed. The eight free games on his list range from a blocky arena shooter and a starfighter dogfight to a Stone Age camp, a humming factory floor and an empire on a shared map. None of them needs an installer, and none charges you to begin.

Total Battle

Tactical empire builder · Strategy & war

A tactical empire game that asks for two kinds of thinking at once. At home you develop your city, deciding what rises next and in which order; out on the shared map you command the army that protects it and pushes its borders outward. Other players fill that live map, so rivalries build slowly over weeks, which suits anyone who likes layered, long-haul strategy.

Good for
Competitive planners who enjoy a campaign measured in weeks.

Daily check-ins, with longer planning evenings

Your first session
  1. Follow the opening tasks so the city grows in a sensible order.
  2. Build up your army before you wander far across the shared map.
  3. Look at who your neighbours are before choosing a fight.

Seven more for the walk home through the snow

Krunker key artAction & arcade

Krunker

Blocky arena shooter

A fast, blocky arena shooter where your class decides both your weapon and the way you move. Seasoned players slide-hop and grind along rails for speed, and a built-in browser loads thousands of community maps and modes, so the next round rarely looks like the last one.

  • A few quick rounds
  • Desktop browser; mobile app also available
Good for & first steps

Good for: Players after pure reflex shooting with no strategy layer.

Your first session
  1. Try several classes before settling on one weapon and movement style.
  2. Practise sliding and jumping on quiet maps first.
  3. Open the community map list once the official maps feel familiar.

Starblast.io key artSpace & sci-fi

Starblast.io

Top-down space shooter

A top-down space shooter that drops your ship into a live arena in one click, with no account needed. You mine asteroids for gems, spend them climbing a branching tree of ships, then face other pilots in team battles or a survival mode where the last ship flying wins.

  • 5 to 15 minutes a match
  • Desktop browser
Good for & first steps

Good for: Anyone who wants space action the moment the tab opens.

Your first session
  1. Mine asteroids early so you can upgrade before facing other pilots.
  2. Test a few branches of the ship tree to find a hull that suits your aim.
  3. In team mode, stay near your base and teammates until your ship is stronger.

Shakes & Fidget key artRole-play & adventure

Shakes & Fidget

Tongue-in-cheek fantasy RPG

A cheeky fantasy role-playing game where your hero heads off on quests that finish on a clock while you get on with the day. Nine classes fight in their own ways, from a Druid who takes bear, tiger or eagle form to a Berserker who strikes several times a turn.

  • A handful of short visits a day
  • Desktop browser; mobile app also available
Good for & first steps

Good for: Players who like a laugh with their dungeon crawl.

Your first session
  1. Read every class description before you commit to a hero.
  2. Choose quests that fit the time before your next visit.
  3. Join a guild early for shared raids and handy advice.

Industry Idle key artBusiness & tycoon

Industry Idle

Idle factory-line tycoon

A factory-building idle tycoon you can start without any account. You lay out tiles, route resources from one building to the next and keep every production line fed, then sell what you make on a global market where other players trade their own goods.

  • Short visits, plus the odd long redesign
  • Desktop browser; mobile app also available
Good for & first steps

Good for: Tinkerers who like to start now and optimise later.

Your first session
  1. Get one simple production line running before adding more.
  2. Watch where resources pile up and reroute them.
  3. Check market prices before deciding what your factory should make.

My Little Farmies key artFarm, town & zoo

My Little Farmies

Medieval village builder

A peaceful medieval village where you sow the fields, run the workshops and turn each harvest into goods for the people of your settlement. Growth comes from production chains rather than battles, so the village spreads at exactly the pace you choose.

  • 15 minutes or so
  • Desktop browser
Good for & first steps

Good for: Builders who would rather craft than fight.

Your first session
  1. Plant the first fields straight away so the workshops have work.
  2. Open workshops in the order the production chain needs them.
  3. Keep a few spare goods in store for villagers' requests.

Stonies key artFarm, town & zoo

Stonies

Stone Age camp builder

A Stone Age settlement builder in which you set your tribe to gather, craft and research, then widen the camp as they learn new skills. Daily survival chores and a slow climb up the technology ladder drive the game, which gives it a hardier feel than a cosy farm.

  • Around 20 minutes
  • Desktop browser; mobile app also available
Good for & first steps

Good for: Builders who like a survival edge to their village.

Your first session
  1. Give every member of the tribe a job from the start.
  2. Spend the first research on tools that make gathering quicker.
  3. Expand the camp only when supplies can keep up.

War Commander key artStrategy & war

War Commander

Modern warfare base builder

A modern military base builder where raids are not settled automatically: you steer the tanks and infantry squads yourself as the fight unfolds. Between attacks you rebuild walls, reposition turrets and gather blueprints from limited-time events.

  • Half an hour, give or take
  • Desktop browser
Good for & first steps

Good for: Strategists who want their own hands on the battle.

Your first session
  1. Lay out walls and turrets before your base draws attention.
  2. Practise moving units on easy targets to learn the controls.
  3. Keep an eye on the events calendar for blueprints worth chasing.

Cost, all 8: Free to play; optional in-game purchases.

01

A ticket that costs nothing

Every game on this page lets you begin for free and keep playing for months; the matches, quests, fields, factories and campaigns all belong to the free version.

The studios do sell extras such as premium currency, cosmetic gear and ways to skip a wait. Plenty of players never touch the shop, and families sharing one computer can usually switch off purchases from the account settings on the studio website.

02

Pushing off on the first night

Every button here opens the official site of its game in a new tab. Starblast.io and Industry Idle let you start without any account; most of the others ask for a short registration before your hero, camp or city appears.

Nearly all of them begin with a guided opening. Ride it through to the end, since it teaches the controls and resources far faster than exploring alone.

03

Games that keep ticking while you skate

In Shakes & Fidget, My Little Farmies, War Commander and Industry Idle, the world moves on without you: quests finish, crops ripen, repairs complete and factories hum. A glance before work and another after supper is usually plenty.

Krunker and Starblast.io are the opposite, because each round is live and over within minutes. Save those for a spare quarter of an hour, and keep the longer evenings for big decisions in the builders.

04

Guarding your sign-ins like a lantern in a gale

Each studio runs its own login, so type your details only on that studio's genuine web address. Give every game a different password and switch on two-step sign-in wherever it is offered.

No real support team ever needs your password. Anyone offering free premium currency in return for your sign-in is after the account itself, so ignore the message.

How Gaspard settled on these eight

  • Each one opens in an ordinary desktop browser tab, with nothing to set up before the first match or harvest.
  • They cost nothing to join, and the whole main game is there for anyone who never visits the shop.
  • The mix runs from twitchy shooters to slow builders, so there is something for a restless night and something for a sleepy one.
  • Every studio behind them still updates its game, which keeps the servers lively and the maps busy.

No. All eight play in a desktop browser. Krunker, Industry Idle, Stonies, Total Battle and Shakes & Fidget also have a mobile app for anyone who wants one; Starblast.io, My Little Farmies and War Commander are desktop browser games.

No. Each one is free to start, and the main game is yours without spending; buying anything is entirely your choice.

No. Independent studios build and run every one of them; our buttons simply take you to their official sites.

No. They come from separate studios, so each asks for its own registration, and Starblast.io and Industry Idle let you start without one.

Shakes & Fidget, My Little Farmies, War Commander and Industry Idle keep moving while you are away. Krunker and Starblast.io only run while you are in the match.

My Little Farmies, with its quiet fields and workshops, or Stonies if you would like a little survival in the mix. Krunker and Starblast.io are the quickest and loudest of the eight.

Yes. Krunker and Starblast.io have live matches, Shakes & Fidget has guilds, War Commander has alliances, Total Battle shares one live map, and Industry Idle has a player market.
